Our leadership have been working together for many years, even prior to the establishment of Berteig Consulting. This long relationship has allowed us to become a highly effective team. We strive to build a business based on love as the strongest driver of change, truthfulness as the foundation of all progress, and consultative decision-making with an emphasis on what is right vs. what is expedient.
President – Mishkin is a co-founder of Berteig Consulting and has 20 years of experience working in Agile environments starting as a technical contributor and now as a Leadership Team coach for our client organizations. Mishkin is dedicated to innovation and operational excellence and facilitates the continuous improvement culture so important to Berteig. Mishkin has written over 750 articles on Agile Advice. Mishkin founded BERTEIG in September 2004.
Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer – Melanie is a co-founder of Berteig Consulting Inc and worked behind-the-scenes for several years before taking the formal CFO and COO role in January of 2014. Melanie brings financial discipline and strong focus on efficiency to Berteig.
Melanie Andersen, as Chief Financial Officer, monitors and manages the financial health of Berteig. She also helps with all the small, yet important details in running a business smoothly as our Chief Operations Officer, general office manager and executive assistant to Mishkin Berteig. If you have a problem that needs solving or a question that needs answering, please don’t hesitate to contact her. Melanie founded BERTEIG in September 2004.
VP of Consulting Services – Travis Birch has extensive experience in consulting, coaching and facilitation in organizational transformation and team building methods since 2008, with a focus on Agile methods. Travis is highly committed to helping transform people, process and culture in organizations. Travis brings patience, integrity and sensitivity to others as personal qualities to his work with organizations. Travis is a Certified Scrum Professional, Accredited Kanban Trainer, and a certified SAFe Program Consultant. Travis has contributed dozens of articles to Agile Advice over the years. Travis joined BERTEIG in July 2008.

Senior Consultant – David’s professional career highlights the intersections of business, technology, education & innovation. David has 22 years’ experience in software development, 18 years’ coaching and public-speaking, and 8 years’ experience working with agile teams. He is regular guest lecturer at the Ivey School of Business, TEDx speaker alumnus, and a seasoned agilist. David has recently started contributing to Agile Advice. David is also a Scrum Alliance REP Trainer certified to deliver CSM and CSPO training. David also holds the rare and prestigious Certified Scrum Developer certification indicating his ability to create high-quality code in an Agile environment. David joined BERTEIG in April 2015.

Senior Consultant – Jerry has been an Agile professional, enterprise coach and transformation consultant for over 8 years, and he is excited to now be working with BERTEIG to continue his passion of helping companies and people adopt an Agile mindset and continuously improve their practices through training, coaching and experimentation. Jerry is a Certified Scrum Professional and has recently become a Certified LeSS Practitioner. During his personal time Jerry likes to tour Algonquin Park with his family in their kayaks or hike the Canadian Rockies. He also loves taking photos during his tours. You can see some of his photos here. Jerry joined BERTEIG in January 2016.
VP Sales – Mark has worked to build businesses in the Canadian marketplace for over a decade. Mark joined BERTEIG in August 2017.
Director of Business Development – David is a Lean Six-Sigma Master Black Belt and process consultant with experience growing consulting businesses. David joined BERTEIG in July of 2017.
Business Development Manager – Nima displays dedication and passion in his work to assist our clients. He has a Master’s degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and has helped organizations adopt Real Agility since 2013. Nima is a Certified ScrumMaster and Certified Scrum Product Owner. Nima joined BERTEIG in March of 2013.
Agile Teamwork Trainer and Marketing Operations – Valerie has a BFA, an MA, is Associate Professor in Theatre Arts, and is author of “I Want a Poem”. Valerie now lends her talents serving teams with Agile Improve techniques for team-building. She also does some of the Customer Service and Marketing Operations for BERTEIG. Valerie has written a number of articles on Agile Advice. Valerie joined BERTEIG in November 2012.
Sales Operations Manager – Negar has a BA in English Literature and French Studies and a diploma in Montessori education. Negar supports BERTEIG by ensuring that our sales processes run smoothly and are continually improving. Negar joined BERTEIG in November 2015.
Lead Software Developer / IT – Pedram has a BSc in Computer Science and is a Certified Scrum Master. Pedram is helping BERTEIG build our core technology to support our vision and strategy. Pedram joined BERTEIG in February 2017.
Corporate Operations – Katie has a background as a classical musician and fundraising professional. She is is a Certified Team Kanban practitioner, Certified Scrummaster and communication specialist. She helps keep our team one step ahead of all the incredible demand for our services. Katie joined BERTEIG in February 2017.

Advisor and Agile Coach and Consultant – Garry has been working with Agile methods in management and non-technical environments since 2006. Garry has applied Real Agility to organizations as diverse as a college and a nuclear power plant. Garry has extensive experience in education, media, technology and community development that he applies to his work with clients.
Organizational Coach – Coach & Catalyst Michael Sahota helps forward-thinking organizations to create a holistic work culture that gives them the Agile results they need: productivity, innovation and customer delight. By connecting Agile methods to an organizational and human context, Michael helps people develop trust, safety, authentic connection and vulnerability, which creates a healthy, productive workplace.
Advisor, Agile Coach and Trainer
Agile Coach and Trainer – Mike is an Agile and technical coach and trainer who has been writing code for over thirty years and has been an active member of the Agile community for the last fifteen. He blends his strong technical background with a deep understanding of Agile methods to help teams consistently improve how they deliver value to their customers. Mike has contributed three guest articles on Agile Advice. Mike is also a Scrum Alliance REP Trainer for delivering the Certified Scrum Developer course.
Agile Coach and Trainer – Forbes Benning began using Agile methods in 2008 and wonders how he ever lived without it. Now Forbes wants to share that knowledge and experience with other teams. Forbes has experience consulting, coaching and facilitation in large enterprise settings and in team building. With a focus on Agile methods, Forbes is committed to helping transform people, process and culture in organizations.

Berteig Consulting Inc. was founded in 2004 by Mishkin Berteig and Melanie Andersen. The first major consulting engagement that we had was with CapitalOne in Richmond Virginia. At that engagement we also brought in two sub-contractors. This was our auspicious launch! Since then we have added partners, grown, struggled, and learned a great deal about what it takes to help an organization successfully transform its people, process and culture! Major milestones include:
2005 – April: Launched our Agile Advice blog.
2005 – A New Logo produced by Alexei Berteig:
2006: Started working with Nortel. This was a hard lesson in cultural momentum.
2007: Started working on the OpenAgile method as a more general-purpose approach than Scrum.
2008 – January: Hired Paul Heidema as our first full-time employee.
2008 Minor updates to logo to strengthen it (this logo was used for 7 years!):
2008 – August: Sponsored the Agile 2008 conference in Toronto.
2009 Grew too quickly for economic conditions. Hired 4 staff and then had to dismiss 3 staff. That was a bad year.
2010: Great successes with reference accounts Equitable Life in Waterloo, Ontario and Suncor in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
2011: Successful Agile transformation with Workopolis. Re-branded our consulting services as the Real Agility Program.
2012 – January: Launched our training portal World Mindware. Began work with AIMIA and Shaw Media.
2012 – September: Moved head office to London, Ontario.
2013: Hired our first dedicated sales and business development person, Nima Honarmandan.
2014 – January: Promoted Travis Birch to Partner (shareholder and member of the board), moved Melanie Andersen into public role as CFO and COO. Launched our Scrum Team Assessment product.
2015: Major re-branding from Berteig Consulting to just BERTEIG (everyone called us that anyway!) and our new logo:
